TPO is an abbreviation for thermoplastic polyolefin, which is a type of single-layer roofing material that covers the surface of the roof. It is composed of several types of rubber, such as polypropylene and ethylene propylene rubber. TPO products are available in rolls 6, 8, and 10 feet wide, 30 feet long. The TPO Membrane also includes synthetic components and a fabric reinforced scrim that stabilizes and strengthens the membrane to improve performance.

3.1 Polyisocyanurate (Polyiso)

How TPO Roofs Save Money

How will the TPO roof be repaired?
The first sign that the TPO roof needs to be repaired is when water enters the building. This usually happens because the seams are torn, and water can penetrate the roof insulation. When the insulation accumulates that much water, it penetrates the roof terrace and eventually begins to leak inside the building. At this stage, it’s time to call a commercial roofer to inspect the roof. During the inspection, the roofer can determine that:
- Where water gets into the insulation
- How old is the TPO roof?
- Number of roof layers
- What is the state of the seam This conversation shows what repair options the client Let’s say the roof is 12 years old and the seams are slightly raised. If nothing is done now (or soon), the seams will continue to dissolve with each gust, allowing more water to penetrate the insulation. Repair options when TPO roof saturation is less than 25%
An infrared survey may reveal that the roof was not very saturated. If the roof is less than 25% saturated, a silicone repair membrane system can be used. Here’s what happens during the installation of the silicone repair membrane:
- Saturation area is removed and replaced with similar material
- The entire roof area is washed and cleaned
- TPO roof seams are reinforced and reinforced
- Next, the entire surface of the roof is coated with silicone

Another scenario is that the seams are closed even though the saturation is less than 25%. you can restore it with Silicone repair system. This saves money by destroying the existing roof and installing a new TPO system.
Repair option if the roof of the TPO is above 25% saturation
After the infrared inspection is completed, you will find that the roof is oversaturated. In this situation, the silicone repair membrane system is not a good choice. The shape of the roof is too bad to restore. The only option you have is to remove all TPO and insulation to expose the roof terrace. You can now install the new TPO system. However, it may be cost effective to try another roofing system after the last event. A spray foam roof system is recommended. Why?

- Spray foam is a seamless system that eliminates common areas of leakage. The spray foam roof system has other advantages, such as ease of installation. A spray foam roofer simply attaches a cover plate to the TPO roof that needed to be demolished and sprayed the foam onto it. If anything can be removed from this section, the saturation level determines the repair options If more than 25% of the roof is saturated, the roof should be completely destroyed, and the damp insulation removed from the roof. If the saturation is less than 25%, there are more options.
